About 25 minutes east of La Ceiba, near the Garifuna village of Sambo Creek, there are hot spring pools surrounded by jungle. It is one of the most relaxing outings in the area, perfect after a day of adventure or for a slow morning.
What to expect
- Natural hot water pools among the trees, at different temperatures.
- Some sites combine the pools with zip-lining, mud baths or massages.
- A quiet setting away from the city noise.
How to get there
- By car: take the highway toward Trujillo and follow the signs to Sambo Creek; the last stretch may be a dirt road.
- On a tour: many operators include transport from La Ceiba and combine the hot springs with a zip-line.
- By taxi: agree on the round-trip price, or the waiting time, before you go.
Tips
- Bring a swimsuit, towel, flip-flops and insect repellent.
- Go early or on a weekday for fewer people.
- Stay hydrated: hot water and the tropical climate are tiring.
- Ask the site or tour operator for current prices and opening hours.
Combine it with
- A Garifuna lunch in Sambo Creek or Corozal: fried fish, conch soup or hudutu. See where to eat.
- The beach at Sambo Creek in the afternoon.
- Our weekend in La Ceiba plan.
