If you want to see the Maya world without a long trip, Copán is the best choice. This two-day trip combines the ruins of Copán, known as the “Athens of the Maya world” for the quality of its sculpture, with time to unwind at the Luna Jaguar hot springs in the mountains.
What to expect
On day one you travel from La Ceiba to western Honduras, about 7 to 8 hours by road with stops along the way. In the afternoon you can relax in the hot spring pools, then spend the night in Copán Ruinas, a cobblestoned town with good restaurants. On day two you visit the archaeological park, with its hieroglyphic stairway, carved stelae and Great Plaza, before heading back to La Ceiba.
Good to know
